It’s probably the largest collection of male jewellery in the UK, and we love to talk about it.

Freemasons have been making decorative badges they call ‘jewels’ for centuries. They are proudly worn in many of the portrait paintings we have on display in the Museum. But what most people don’t know, is that a few jewels also feature their own miniature portraits. Who are these famous, and not-so-famous faces on the jewels?

Introduced by Interpretation Manager Jane Nielsen, our Curator, Mark Dennis, will explain how these portraits came to be on jewels and how we can learn more about the time and people behind them.
